Most people need a reason
In spite of what you may think, people don't just buy a new OS or a new computer because there is a new one available. They don't even switch for free.

They take some action when they think that the new thing is better enough than the existing thing to justify the time, effort, and money needed to change. Microsoft spends a lot of money trying to tell people why they should switch and some people believe them and do switch. Some do not.

That's why linux is going to go nowhere fast, IMO, since they don't even bother to tell people why they should switch. I haven't seen the "child" commercial for quite a while, but when it ran (during the SuperBowl is the only time I actually remember seeing it) nobody could figure out what was being sold, just that IBM wanted to get their name in front of a few hundred million people. Who's going to hire a little kid to run their business anyway, even if he has been talked to by Mohammed Ali? LOL!
