One correction
I used to run Windows ME on a 500 mhz AMD K-6 processor, 326 MB RAM. My scanner used to drain the system resources to the extent that I had to reboot my computer after use to have even one other program running at full speed. ME reinstalled a number of times and yes I am VERY well aware of how to set up a computer. I am running Windows 2000 on it now and have no such problems any longer. The original poster was right in so far as some programs do cause problems with the memory functions and system resources of the 9* range.
