You sound like an employee of MS or some hardware manufacturer
"It's almost 10 years old come August 2005 it will be." 98SE is only FIVE years old last month.

" I gave up Windows 98 for NT Workstation in 99 because I got sick of the OS locking up due to memory leaks."

Pure techno babble. A clean install of win98 with good solid apps and without 30 programs running at startup does not lock up! You didn't then and obviously don't now know how to set up a properly functioning win98 computer.

" I hated having trouble with the FAT partitions and corruption."

Also pure BS. If you had constant fat32 corruption, then it was your fault.

" I also hated how you couldn't secure the stupid OS. If you are running Window 98 with out an internet router then you have people on your cable node surfing your files.(assuming basic user here)."

This is the only statement you have made so far that has any merit. I feel sure MS purposely did not include instructions for an easy way to secure win98 on a broadband connection.
There is a simple way. All you have to do is unbind the tcp/ip protocol from "client for Microsoft networks" and "file and print sharing". This makes your computer COMPLETELY INVISIBLE to the internet. However, MS never fixed one little quirk in win98. Unless you have some protocol bound to "client for Microsoft networks", it will go away. So you bind netbeui, ipx or some other protocol to "client for Microsoft networks" before you unbind the tcp/ip protocol.
And speaking of protocols, I have been using netbeui for 7 years as the protocol for my local network. MS decided not to include direct support for netbeui in XP. It can be installed after copying files from the valueadd folder on the cd. MS gave some BS reason (similar to what you have been doing) for not including netbeui directly in XP.

"The the driver problems and USB problems. Not to mention how most new hardware doesn't even come with 9X drivers so you have to try and hunt them down."
This is not a fault in win98. This is because the hardware manufacturers hope that by not including win98 driver support, people will be forced to buy new hardware or even a new computer.

Windows 98 is like the economy to midsize car that a person drives to work, shopping, picking up the kids, an occasional trip etc. That same car can work for decades as long as the support is available.
XP is like the luxury car with all the bells and whistles. Nice to have for the right person, but certainly not a necessity.

If the auto industry did what the computer industry is allowed to do, we would be under pressure to trade in and buy a new car every few years.
