Hey! Just what we need!
I know I'm taking the risk of joining those that said 640K memory was more than we would ever need at the dinner table, but it sure looks like an opportunity for desktops not only to idle faster, but with more unused memory and a wider data path.

While the 64 bit may be just the thing for the next generation Play Station, the general-purpose desktop computer doesn't appear to be headed in that direction for now. My home machines are 1 and 2.4 gHz respectively and the office is about a 750 mHz Dell. All are vastly overpowered, instantaneously responding, and even more overpowered than a couple of years ago. I have zero - total zero - local clients, other than office suite, at the office. Every single application is web-based, as contrasted to two to three years ago when the desktop was sharing some of the computing load. My disk drives are now in the 1-200 gB range, while actual usage on my main home computer is less than 8 gB, annd that's because I have some old stuff just not cleaned off.

Moore's law is pushing out the hardware at a rapid clip, but the trend I see in usage is in the opposite direction. I'm trying not to be a Luddite, but whatever is this for?
