You lost the point...
And Microchannel (not Microbus) died. IBM is no longer the leader in selling desktop PC's. That position was stolen by Compaq and IBM used MCA to stall/kill the Compaq competition by locking their customers into a proprietary solution.

Also, IBM didn't use a prorietary BIOS, it used the IBM BIOS and it licensed it out. Compaq was the first company to develop an IBM-compatible BIOS with absolutely no copying of the IBM firmware (thus beating out the IP copyrights and the IBM licensing).

Compaq also ate IBM's shorts when while IBM was getting ready to push out 16MHz 80286 systems, Compaq released a computer based on the 80386 processor.

As such, IBM is no longer the lead in desktop PC's.

Can anyone else name a late-comer who also has attempted to maintain a monopoly position by locking down their customers with proprietary technology?
