Photoshop on *nix is definately the killer app that's needed. I also agree that this online version in nothing but a simple tool for those who won't spend the money, and a possible hook to upsell to the the more powerfull, locally installed versions.

What I find interesting is that the article focuses on Google and Picasa. I can understand wanting an online version before Google attempts one, and I also realize Google is the current buzz-company that everyone is watching. Sure, Picasa may be a nice free alternative for mom and pop to to do simple photo touch-ups and keep track of the photos, but they're forgeting about GIMP, which is alot closer to Photoshop, is already cross-platform, can be integrated into a website through scripts, and is also free. It has much more potential to hurt Adobe's Photoshop business than Picasa at this point unless Google dumps some serious cash and development time into Picasa.
