Re-but
No it does not affect Microsoft and VMware equally at all. It doesn't hurt Microsoft
to limit their own technology since they sell a licenses for each and every copy
their server and, if they restrict movment, they get to sell more licenses--whcih is
exactly why they are doing this and thwarting VMware. VMware will, contrarily, sell
fewer of their products due to Microsoft's restrictions. So your point is focused on
the wrong thing: it isn't whether Microsoft's restrictions affect everyone, it whose
bottom line was the action designed to protect and whose to hurt. Microsoft ties
its servers and desktop together. Normally, that would be okay, unless teh
perpetrator is a conviced monopolist. Microsoft has been accused and convicted
of monopolistic tying and the world is watching carefully now. In this case, a
convicted predatory monopolist is benefitting itself at the expense of a growing
competitor who they think might threaten them. Microsoft ca pull this off because
of their monopoly and tying with desktop outlook and Office. Otherwise, users
woudl go to another vendor is response. As it is, they have few option. Hence the
problem. That has tying written all over it.
