Paying extra for what?
I agree. All the features I'm supposedly now paying for in Windows are standard now, I can download them for free. Why should I have to pay extra just so they'll have a shiny Windows logo on them?

As far as cars, I proudly drive a 1981 Chevrolet Chevette that I bought for $200. It has just what I need, nothing I don't, and I didn't have to sell my soul to a bank to afford it. After all, when was the last time you saw air conditioning as an option in a car? Since when has a mouse-controlled user interface been considered a 'feature' in an operating system? So, why am I still paying for this growing stack of now standard features?

If this continues as suggested, in a decade or two, we'll be paying thousands for really pretty standard operating systems for their time, just because they ARE standard. What's worse is that we'll be forced to do so, because older models, unlike cars, won't be supported anymore!

Microsoft may think they have a good monopoly going here, but they don't. I don't know about you, but I'm not going to pay a ridiculously high price for something that's not all that much better than everything else on the market when it's near-equal competitors are free.
