I see. Once I questioned Linux
I became deluded? I do not see how you came up with the number that 1 admin can run 3 time as many Linux machines as opposed to Windows machines. I can see the number being the other way around as most of what we need runs centraly, much of it from 1 server, and you're talking to the admin.

Windows has free firewall, Backup software, and a security device is needed no matter what you run as I've seen many an apache server on linux hacked. Building one is another aspect of the network I would have to deal with, rather just get a device from a vendor/manufacturer who's expertise lies there.

The harware issue is that if I'm setting up laptops or using an older Dell or Compaq (which used ATI video) that's another cost of upgrading the video card. Not expensive, but still a cost. What do I do with a laptop needing wireless?
(By the way, I was NOT blaming Linux, just pointing out a reality)

My response was to Chad up there that implies Linux is basiclly a zero cost solution, which it is not. A lot of large companies have looked at both, If they chose Windows over Linux was it because they light cigars with 100 dollar bills, or did they find that in the end it may cost less to run the windows system?

I'm not counting a migration factor where it may not be practical to migrate to a Linux based network, but many companies have dropped their Unix setup for Windows based servers when it theory, it should have been easier to go to Linux. Why?

I don't really care that Linux runs on a wrist watch, I manage a small network of 170 PC's, not a network of 170 wrist watches.

I'm not knocking Linux as an OS, it's quite good, I am however knocking the people who seem to think Linux is zero cost and that it's the solution for everybody, which it most definately is not.
