Hadn't heard this before. Yeah right.
Every week for the last FIVE YEARS, there is another story about how Linux will be ready for the average retail user in a couple of years.

The fact is that even as Linux has advanced, so has Windows.

The reason why Linux has done ok as a server in the business world because that's what it is. A UNIX clone. An OS designed to run apps on a server.

It was not built for average end users in mind. Now it is possble for that to happen, like Apple did it, but there is only ONE OS X, not dozens of variants. A consistant look and feel and core. That's just something that Linux isn't.

Like any attribute, there's good and bad. Linux is open and "free" for end users, but it is not consistant. It wasn't designed with that in mind.
It was meant to be an open and "do with it what you will" type of system, and that type of thing is very much at odds with consistantcy and ease of use.
