Well...
As much as I love google, I see this as the beginning of the end. I've worked at two different companies who were private and then went public. In both cases the atmosphere went from a nice place to work to hell. Keeping shareholders happy always leads to lying and layoffs. Quality of the company drops tremendously. I think the reason for this is when a company is public it has to keep improving sales, which means the focus leaves the product and points to the salesmen. Most salesmen don't understand technology and make promises they can't keep. Upper management is under constant pressure to show a profit so they lie, cheat and steal to do it. Basically going from private to public equals a loss of integrity. I wish them luck but I think it will lead to their ruin. You'll know the moment you see more crap on their home page (like yahoo) or popups when you get there.
