not only that ...
... But there are spyware trojans that hide in your System32 folder which neither ad-aware, nor spybot search and destroy can remove. If you are running XP, and your hard drive is formatted with NTFS, the only way to remove them is to boot from an install CD, run the recovery console, and manually delete all the files the trojan created from the command line. At least Ad-aware can tell you the names of the offending files. The ones I have encountered on my job as a computer repair tech cause so many pop-ups to appear that the render a PC essentially useless. I wouldn't be surprised if millions abandoned computers outright, concluding that they aren't worth the hassle.
