Bringing OS/2 back from the dead ...
>>> Maybe they'll resurrect OS/2, for kicks and giggles. <<<

How eerie, as I just finished watching Dawn and Day of the Dead!
(being from Pittsburgh we take a perverse pride in George Romero's work)

To the issue noted in the comment above:

IBM could resurrect OS/2 but they'd have a real hard time finding programmers who can handle dealing with SOM and the WorkPlace Shell. Two of the primary reasons why us old time users continue to run eComStation.

I know you were probably kidding, but IMHO it really is a bummer that such an advanced operating-system was tossed in the bit-bucket. Two of the bigger reasons given by people who bad mouth OS/2 are completely null-n-void these days.

1] Amount/expense of memory needed to run. Today's systems typically having 256 megs as a starting point and usually twice that as a base. Plus, you should see performance on any 5-year old and newer processors. eCS positively flies!

2] Installation was a real bear. Serenity System has completely redone *ALL* the installation routines for the latest 1.2R GA version. And eCS 2 promises to be even better, allowing for automatically shrinking of NTFS/other file systems during installation. Very Linux-like in how eCS is being designed to co-exist with Windows and others.

It's a fantasy that we know will never happen, but it does get the juices flowing to think about the possibilities happy
