And now for the dee-dee-dee of the year award...
Of course sales grew by 173% from the previous week. The previous week was an admitted slump. Of course, being that you are who you are it should surprise nobody that you completely skipped over the assertion that you'll get a better idea how Vista is doing after 6 months than 1 week. Now let's examine why the previous weeks were a slump in the market...

If you're planning on buying a new car and the next years models are going to be on the market in 3 or 4 weeks, what do you do? You wait until it's a buyers market. Same goes for PCs, especially this day and age when the general public perception is that they're obsolete the moment they make it through the checkout lane (or click "Submit" for those ordering online). This is why there are consumer driven buying cycles, and why manufacturers try to plan for them when they can be forecast with any reliability.

But the bottom line is really this... The consumer market is a nice niche piece of Microsoft's business, but corporate America is what pays the bills. How many major corporations have already pushed out Vista to even a majority of their workstations (that's more than 50% for those who are semantically challenged)? Yes, most of them will probably get there eventually. Looking around at the corporate desktops these days, a lot of companies still haven't seen a reason to adopt XP. That number will continue to grow as a lot of companies on XP now see no reason to adopt Vista. Microsoft is going to continue it's dominance on the desktop, just maybe not the way they'd like.
