Just more hypocricy ...
..So if that's the way it's done then what sense does it make to force a new format on everyone?..

Those in elected office are given the power BY THE PEOPLE to make these kinds of decisions. Its just amazing how the same 'pols' are applauded when they accept large 'contributions' and make the 'right' decision as a result of being bought, but when they make decisions that don't gain them anything but possible votes, they get criticized. People complained vociferously when workers were 'forced' to change from the typewriter to the computer (I was around back then) and then people complained with the same rancor when 'forced' to change from the terminal on the mainframe in the back room to the PC. This is nothing new. The same old hypocrites are still around defending the big money. Back then the big money was the typewriter/'office machine' industry (it was huge at one time), and then IBM. Now it is Microsoft and people with a vested interest in Microsoft are out there screaming and hollering. There are always those that fight change and I do remember very distinctly hearing office workers exclaiming how their employers were 'wasting money on computers' and changing to methods that 'would never work'. Ditto when MS PCs replaced the mainframes. Laughs, derisive comments, anger. It was all there. And much of it came from or was instigated by people with years of investment in the old dying technology that were willing to display the most brazen hypocrisy in order to try to preserve their way of life, along of course with many how hate change to the degree that if their views had prevailed, we would all still be clanking along in horsed and buggy style.

..On the other hand if you are against forcing formats on peps then you probably dislike this piece of legislated 'choice'..

I really don't know what 'peps' are, but in a given work situation someone in authority has to make a choice. I am all for individuals and corporations and governments being free to make choices. But when you work for somebody, you no longer maintain all of your individual rights. You agree to give up certain of those rights in order to receive a paycheck. But here again, those who are hypocritical about such things practice one thing in their own lives (they LIKE to be able to dictate their views to others), but impose a different standard on others (don't impose your stuff on me).

Nothing could be more clear, but it is easy to couch half truths in pithy little comments.

..Me, I'd prefer if pols stayed out of IT..

I'm sure what you mean by this is that you are opposed to software patents that were "imposed" on IT by those same pols? Right? Or is this just more hypocrisy?
