perhaps not patches every half hour but it feels like it
Especially when you're on dial up.
And XP is hardly without problems.

Oh yeah maybe I don't KNOW enough.
That's right, I've only been using MS Windows for 12 years (ie since the first Windows), supporting them for 4 years, and writing Visual C++ and some VB for a good proportion of the rest. Yeah what the hell do I know.

By comparison, if you have a Linux box (say Mandrake 9.2) it takes hardly anytime to install. At the end you get a VAST array of software. And it just keeps running, even with security updates from MandrakeUpdate.

There is loads of free information available, so you can always find problems, (without wipe and install), and the layout of the filesystem allows you to find eg: spooled stuff. Where in the hell does Windows put it? windows-system32-spool? only print jobs, not other spooled stuff.1

Like I said, I'm obviously not as experienced as the mighty NoAx with his infinite wisdom, because my inferences from my experience differ with NoAx's.
