But if the "official guidelines" don't work...
Now let me see if I read the story right: A customer buys a legitimate Vista upgrade and attempts to install it on a machine running a legitimate copy of Windows 2000. The upgrade doesn't work as promised, so after wasting six hours of his time, he comes up with a workaround that allows him to successfully install the software he's paid Microsoft for. But Microsoft's only response is to "encourage customers to follow the official guidelines" and to claim that customers who have to workaround Microsoft's own incompetence are in violation of the license agreement.

Where in that sequence of events is there any hint that Microsoft accepts any responsibility for keeping any of the promises, claims or representations they made in convincing you go give them your money? Oh, that's right, that license agreement also includes disclaimers relieving Microsoft of any responsibility for anything except taking your money.

My dictionary still defines that as "fraud" and "theft by misrepresentation". That Microsoft is still getting away with it is both a clear indictment of our so-called "legal" system, as well as the one simple reason Microsoft has not and never will earn the trust of their customers.

I'll be interested to see how the various delusional apologists - "MVP's" - can keep twisting that logic.
