True, but the leverage you have decreases and the terms you can extract become less.
In Sony's case, the 'extras' had to be thrown in as standard and the price had to drop.
I'm suggesting that in Apple's case it will be cheaper price + DRM restrictions abandoned.

I disagree, its part of iPods marketing buzz, e.g. see the Fidelity section on the iPod page:

Your considering cost in isolation, but the early walkmans had the premium of 'missing features', e.g. a missing car adapter. Later ones had to throw all these in.
For Apple the 'missing features' premium is the DRM limitations - no support for MP3 players, authentification required etc.

Try playing them on an MP3 player, play them on a car MP3 player and your stuck with a 10 track regular CD.

I'm not singling out Apple on this, very few MP3 players will play MS WMA files even without v2 DRM on them. They'll face reality eventually too.
