Fads
---Now its $9.99 everyone makes them and all the extras are
thrown in the box---

Just because they became cheaper, doesn't mean they dropped
in popularity. How often do you see someone with headphones
listening to music? I see it all the time. Once it's been around
that long, it's no longer a fad, it's a way of life.

---Same will happen to iTunes, AAC is viewed as a premium
format, and people are prepared to pay for and put up with the
DRM---

I disagree here. I don't think AAC is viewed as a premium. I
don't think most people who buy from the iTMS even know what
an AAC file is. As far as "paying up", it's a lot cheaper than
buying a non-DRM infected cd. .99 cents for a song is a lot less
than buying an $18.99 list cd to get that one song. $9.99 for an
album is a lot less than buying an $18.99 list cd. It's not a
premium. And how much trouble is caused by Apple's DRM?
Very little for the casual user, and that's the majority.

---I think iTunes is an iPod accessory---

I've probably purchased over $100 from the iTMS and I don't
own an iPod. I like being able to pick individual songs off of
compilations without paying for the whole album. I like being
able to buy newly released bonus tracks without re-buying the
cd that I already own. I like being able to spend $0.99 to sample
one song off an album and decide if I like it enough to buy the
whole thing.
