Yes Times have changed
Back then they did want specific skill types. Today not so much because business has learned the software changes. What is Microsoft today might something eles tomorrow. Asking for specific vendor skill types is silly and reduces the potential of getting a really good employee.

The skill that employers really look for is not how proficient one is with a specific word processor but how good one is at writing. Know Microsoft Office inside and out doesn't amount to hill of beans if you can't write decent report in the first place. A good report writer doesn't need a specific word processor they just need a good.

On top of that how many kids out there are there that won't know Microsoft software? Few if any I'd think. So add thier skill in other office technology suites and that's better than a person who just knows Microsoft technology.
