They don't do standards at all

They're not even good followers! They break everything they copy, then attempt to
suffocate the original by flooding the market with their broken copies, THEN try to
claim that they invented it in the first place and the original is the broken copy.
(See the recent interview where Billzebub implies that Apple copied the Mac OS
from MS-Windoze!!) And they have sold their broken crap to enough clueless
users that they actually stand a fair chance of succeeding. I predict that the "ODF
converter" they have sponsored will prove highly effective at importing ODF data
into their applications, but will omit just a "few little things" when exporting it
again. Once they get their grubby mitts on your data they will hold it hostage
forever.

And their "standard" would be a joke if only there were not a real danger it could
actually become a de facto standard, certified or not. There are certainly enough
MS sheep to put it over. It contains over 40 instances where compatible
applications are required to duplicate unspecified bugs from obsolete programs. It
is not only incompatible with numerous existing standards, it also contains
internal inconsistencies. And even though it's over 6,000 pages long it does not
contain enough information to actually PRODUCE a compatible application, or
even to determine whether an application IS compatible. If this abomination is
typical of their internal documentation, the wonder is not that Schlonghorn- err,
Vista - took 6 years and is barely an XP update, it's that they EVER managed to
finish it.
