They're right. This bug originated with 1-2-3 and as they were the DOMINANT spreadsheet of the time, everyone had to make sure that their software would read and write .wks/wk1 files. Hence the carry over of the bug. ALL of the spreadsheets did this because if you didn't, you couldn't send your file to anyone else, and expect it to work right. At the bank I worked for at the time, we were using quattro pro, and it did the same thing, which was irritating if you were working with a Trust account that dated back to the late 1800's . . .
