Don't worry, the best programmers are well paid.
Like Jeremy Alison at Google. There may be some good part-timers that fall between the cracks and don't get paid what they deserve, but, it they didn't enjoy it, they would not do it. And, that is another important point, the open source programmers are typically doing what they want and much happier that the closed source counter parts.
