Vista just isn't worth it!
OK, I have checked all the office computers here, and of the five, all of them are quite capable of running Vista. Now, the rub. Of the 3 printers and two scanners we use, only one printer and one scanner will have new drivers developed for Vista.
Given the fact that all the computers as well as all of the printers and scanners are working extremelly well with XP Pro, there is simply no compelling reason to upgrade to Vista. Unless, of course we simply want to buy new scanners and printers for the hell of it. Not likely!
To the makers of all the printers and scanners out there, this may seem like it is the golden opportunity for them to rake in increased profits by selling new Vista peripherals to the masses, but I don't think so. Most computer users today have gotten considerably wiser and are much more capable of figuring out if the new operating system will work with their old equipment much more than they were even 5 years ago. No, I am in the camp that believes the box makers and peripheral makers are in for a longer slog than they think. Granted, the intro of Win 95 and Win 98 were huge. XP was too, but to a lesser degree.
If I were Bill Gates, I wouldn't be singing "Start It Up" just yet. This could take a couple of years before there is significant demand for the new operating system.
