Neil Young is doing that right now on his tour buses. His vehicles are running on recycled oils from fast food restaurants and getting around 10-15 MPG last I checked.

It works, obviously, and as long as there is a Mickey D's around, there will be fuel. If we'd listened to Jimmy carter when he tried to get the alternate fuel research funding 25 years ago, we wouldn't need to make up wars to protect oil sources now.

Why do we pay to plow under potential fuel sources? Oil companies make bigger campaign contributions than farmers...
