When did you use a mac? 8 years ago?
Who cares if you can replace your motherboard if you might have to replace
everything attached to it? New motherboards tend to draw more power, use newer
harddrive controller technology and new ram interfaces. Chances are that your old
parts will either be useless or slow down your new motherboard so you are
basically left with just the old case. You might as well save your time and money
and buy an new machine and give or sell your old one to a friend or relative.

If you want to speed up the mouse, open up the Keyboard & Mouse prefs pane
and crank up the tracking speed. *Gasp* That is exactly what you can do on
windows.

What to change hardware, get a desktop tower. Want to adjust the OS, either get
third-party shareware/freeware or edit the XML .plist files and hack the .nib files
with Interface builder. It is easier to hack the OS or Application GUIs on OS X than
it is on windows. The latter involves using a resource hacker to mess with the
binary EXEs and DLLs.
