Expecting too much
Expecting the RIAA to allow prices to be lowered is predicated on them having some common sense. Their actions to date indicate that the RIAA as a whole has no common sense.
1. Suing 13 year old girls.
2. Wanting to raise the cost of iTunes singles to the $3-5 USD range. The RIAA already makes about 70 cents per iTunes download already - and it's pure profit to boot.
3. Trying to get intrusive(and flat-out broken) DRM into everything.

I do agree with you that they need to lower their prices. If the content/value ratio were to match reasonably priced DVDs, a CD of music should cost $5 USD or less.
