I-Pod is the best but still not good enough
Audiophiles usually cannot stand to listen to any of the compressed file formats because the compression destroys the integrity of a high-quality sound file - all you usually have to do is listen for cymbals or percussion if your ears are discerning enough. That reason alone is why .99 is still too much for degraded files when CD's can usually be found at discount retailers for around $10-$12 including new artists.
Many publications insist that MP3's and their ilk are more like radio because you're not getting nearly the actual quality product you buy. I tend to agree. But if all one listens to is radio - I-Pod is a good choice.
