ITune + Ipod close ecosystem???
Finally after much deliveration I got my Ipod 15G.

Sincerely I'm not a die hard music fan, but I like music enough to say Ipod is not my first MP3 player... I also have a RCA Lyra RD 1021 64MB + 64MB SD card for around 30 - 128 Mbps music (very basic MP3 configuration but serve my music needs) and of course, my PocketPC for additonal bytes of music on the road.

I can tell you, take off box's plastic envelope and you will be amaze (I was) the packaging is outstanding. Ipod is stylish. It definitely look cool, like no other in the market. This feature sum point to my decision and rip off gulty feeling for the expending, you know what I mean.

Ipod is light, small but strong (It look and feel solid, no doubt, quite a fall, and it will not hold it). Anyway I'm not going to try how tough it is.

Installation, two words: Damn EASY!!!
If you installed program before, this is not a chalenging one. Normal following Window Wizard. (just sold my good old Imac 233Mhz, and at this moment just have a MS Windows laptop sad (borrowed from office), Hopefully a new iMac is on it's way to be MS free again.

Sound; again I'm not a musician, to me, it sound great, very clear, Hard Rock at high volume, Not distorsion at all, included std. ear spekears are good.

Ipod bios is easy to use and friendly to get along with in no time.

Library managing (Well, this is a new territory for me) with Lyra I just converted CD and then copied files to it. I did not read any user manual or How to?? stuff; very intuitive and easy program, with plenty of encoders, no additional cost for plug-in (WMP, doesn't include MP3 encoder).

Firewire syncro is fast.

I also checked Ipod as external storage... It's a great way to carrying precious files, but It's not meant to be a external HDD; batery life for storage got exausted very fast (I got 40 to 50 min.) For music, I got 6 to 6:30 non-stop hours of clear music.

I also tried adding song to iTune folder using MP3 enconder instead a iTunes's AAC default encoder. Finally copied and paste these files into RCA Lyra. It work!!. Probably is not a direct way to have song in you non-Ipod MP3 player, but procedure works.

Close ecosystem, I think wrong statement.
