But that is good for business
I think customers of custom MS software, after many years of use, won't mind paying to get their code on Vista. I remember when XP came out(a bit off point)the zdneters and the conservative users were very leary in my neck of the woods. It was slow to be adopted, but eventually it became a very well loved OS. I'm sure Vista will work out. At least it's underpinnings are well written now and it will be much easier to even replace certain functionality if needed...just slide it right in. They are looking at a much improved winfs to be released in a cycle at some point. I'm glad the original specs were nixed and I think it was mostly on purpose due to finding they weren't going to provide as robust a file system as envisioned. That will give Vista a major jolt in speed. And thee existing software built around Vista, Office, sharepoint etc. have a lot of web based capability for devs to work on. I've been trying to find more time to work with my msdn dev editions and there is some major potential with Sharepoint and all the tools they've thrown into VS for it. I like the excel services you can run on Sharepoint as well. New concept to me, but I can see a lot of power in very little coding with tools like this. Sometimes I think that Vista and all other "2007" releases have reached almost half way to becoming as web oriented as rich client oriented. Obvious maybe but even though the dev tools have some issues, it's going in a good direction with great balance
