I've worked with windows for 16 years
and decided that I was going to learn linux because I thought it would be fun. That was back when red hat 2 came out. I've used it on and off since then but have used debian consistently for the last 2 years. Does it have a learning curve? Sure, but so does switching from a mac to a pc or vice versa. You think httpd.conf or smb.conf is more cryptic than shlwapi.dll or npccs32.dll? At least I can open any file on a linux box and figure out what it does.

And I have yet to run into issues installing ubuntu on just about any box or laptop. Gentoo is another story but if you check your hardware first, most distros install 1-2-3.
