Not really ...
Those who accepted the "upgrade" did so, for the most part, blindly. They hadn't run it before and hadn't any real idea of its capabilities. So no ... the download count doesn't say much of anything for the quality of the browser. Despite having 100 million downloads out there, its predecessor continues to be more widely used. THAT says something about the quality of IE7.

It is interesting that the feature you seem to like best about IE7 is one that first appeared in Firefox and Opera quite some time ago.

IE7 is MSFT's acknowledgment that Opera and Firefox pose real threats to IE. When it comes to the internet, Gates & Co. STILL don't get it. They are late to the party time after time ... their 'innovation' apparently being limited to breaking interoperability standards to force their users into an 'either / or' choice whenever possible.

XP came on this laptop when I bought it ... but the CD that came with the system isn't likely to resurrect it in the event of a serious meltdown. Experience has shown me that all MSFT products eventually have that meltdown.

When that happens, I'll probably fire up Ubuntu or Mandriva or Fedora. Oddly enough, this laptop came with a good selection of MSFT applications already installed. All I had to do was buy an additional license to keep using them.

I will not pay the Microsoft tax twice. I deleted them.
