Well, you believe incorrectly. IE uses the Trident engine, Firefox uses Gecko. "Come to believe" means nothing. To find the truth, you must research.

Which means nothing - investing is not the same as sharing code. Not that it would matter anyways - Apple does not make Mozilla.

Now, IE and FF do have a common ancestor: Mosaic. Unfortunately, they've both been rewritten so many times since then that there's no code left from it.
