A lot of OSS discussion is hot air
A lot of discussion I've seen about open source is hot air. So I expect this issue will be no different. I like the fact that Torvalds has never been about a particular agenda. I guess another way of saying that is he's tolerant. He just wants technology to be useful to people. If people find DRM useful, then go ahead and use it.

I agree with him that DRM gets in the way of people doing what they want to do with content, even if it's within the law, but I think DRM is what's keeping content production a profitable business. Not that people aren't finding a way around it, but it puts a brake on the abuse of copyrights. So I see it as a good compromise. It's not the ideal of the way it used to be with analog media. The reason the rules were that liberal is it was difficult to make good copies of that media. It's much easier to make exact copies of digital media and distribute thousands or millions of copies of it. This had the potential to put content companies out of business. I don't see the use in that.
