- DRM arguments aside...
-
....where do you get your desktop marketshare figures? Just curious.
And Linus really didn't argue for or against DRM, just saying he doesn't like the technology. He didn't say that Linux would or would not have DRM. He said...it's UP TO THE INDIVIDUAL DEVELOPER!!
Linux itself is just the kernel....and the kernel itself is open source.... so any one distribution can have or not have DRM.
As for desktop marketshare, I think you might find that Linux already exceeds Mac OSX on the desktop, but since Linux isn't sold in the shop (as a rule) how would you know how many desktops are running Linux? I know several who have Macs and are running OSX alongside Linux. I know many who have PCs and are running XP alongside Linux. DRM will drive people away from OSs which force DRM on you, and some will use Windows or OSX for their DRM needs...if need be.
The point is, as far as marketshare is concerned, DRM certainly won't determine Linux' marketshare. It might just determine that of OSX and Windows. - Posted by: mdsmedia Posted on: 01/16/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
