Read it again, Rock.
Linus said nothing at all about wanting DRM in the kernel, he said it was up to individual Linux developers/packagers whether or not to include it.

The Linux kernel source is as freely available as any other part of GNU/Linux. If someone wants to add DRM to it and release a distro based on that, fine. That's their business. Similarly, it's equally okay if someone else takes the DRM-ed kernel source and strips out the DRM code. Either way, it's not, as Linus sees it, his business.

So, given the anarchic nature of us Linux coders, I strongly suspect that anyone who tries to incorporate DRM into the kernel of a custom distro will find a drop-in replacement, sans DRM, made available very shortly thereafter.
