Does blind faith determin technical direction for you?
Here you go disputing Microsoft (Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, countered your claims personally). ROI depends on a number of factors and what you are measuring against. Your personal or corporate needs are the same as those in other markets or sectors. Generalized statements do not apply in all situations.

If you are needing some functionality that is delivered via one or another Microsoft product, fine. If on the other hand, you have different needs, you will go with what meeds your needs for the given problem. You appear to be very dependent on Microsoft and blinded to analyzing various markets and sectors, financial needs and objectives of variant companies and organizations, the business cases for making the decision to go with one product over another.

Not everyone has the sole objective of making the largest software company in the world more revenues, some people have lives! Use what meets your needs and don't get religious about it (be it Microsoft, some Open Source technologies, IBM, Oracle, etc.), adaptation is a much needed quality in business.
