TCO. You are certainly smarter than to think open source is cheaper than proprietary, right? It's all based on the context and needs of said organization, but I've seen no proof that open source is better, cheaper or provides more productivity than closed source. Where are the benchmarks? Most companies are looking for economies of scale and that is very difficult to achieve with open source. Perhaps it will become much more prevalent and moreso and moreso over time as companies just start to follow suit and Mainly as commercial software writers target open source since the market is so wide open and large at the moment.

facts are i've heard of more projects running way over budget and the workers slogging through it than many real cost saving scenarios. Proprietary will give a unified approach everytime. period.
