RedHat and MySQL are making good money. RedHat in particular has been on a
tear lately, even with Oracle creating a clone. But, with the force of Google, Amazon, ETrade, IBM, HP, RedHat, Oracle, Novel, etc, behind Linux in particular, and open source in general, it is here to stay. Companies can go bankrupt, and the code lives on and gets taken over. Actually, with closed source, you are more at risk, if a company goes belly up, the code can get tied up in bankruptcy court and cause all kinds of problems for users.

We don't need the multi-million dollar executive and sales salaries, the super bowl adds, the glass skyscrapers. We just need the software, support, and services.
