- BabbleFish XPS file format; new reality of Windows Vista
-
Early adopters of Vista are told to email attachments in PowerPoint format. I suspect the new XPS file format is the reason. See

Lets try to translate as we hitch hike through the IT galaxy.
Microsoft's Polish inventor of Micosoft Word has taken wealth from the US back to his native country and left Microsoft with code that is unsupportable. Microsoft managment after years of disparaging WordPerfect in effect adopts SGML, WordPerfect's secret weapon, and rewrites Word in Office 12 (which we might as well just call Vista Office.) in response
Its a complete 1.0 product, not compatable with anything Polish like old versions of Word. Hence Vista Office users are instructed to save Word as PowerPont when attaching documents to email. This way users of the Polish flavors of Word have a babblefish. (a fish like creature from the Hitchhiker film/book that translates from one laguage to another.)
Microsoft has been giving active bloggers free laptops with Vista and Office for evaluation. I probably should ask for one. There is little wrong with this strategy when the blogger is an IT professional. In fact IT professionals get thousands of dollars in free stuff at about every conference they attend. But there is something especially wrong with giving thosands of bucks of free stuff to the lay population - especailly journalists and even more especially members of bar associations. These individuals (unless also IT professionals, which would represent a special case in my head) do not have the background and skills necessary to evaluate objectively. For members of a bar association such a laptop is pure and simply a bribe not unlike the bribes of laptops Microsoft gives to physicians.
So a call out to IT professonals. Is the advise to convert to Powerpoint really necessary. Is there a conversion kit in the work that will make this unnecisary. I just think it a hoot that Open Office (new version now available) gets suppport from that advise. Anyone else have the kind of experience I have?
