PowerPoint is Open Office's Best Friend
Years of trying to get budget for Microsoft Office met with surprise just at year end for those dealing with American Bar Association lawyers. Vista users have been trained to save their documents in PowerPoint format because Vista Word format can not be read by older versions of Word. (there are likely other reasons like virus avoidance as well.) Open Office reads those PowerPoint formated documents.

So law firms who have been influenced to peddle Vista for Microsoft (with free preloaded Vista laptops or other bribes from the American Bar Association president Bill Neukom) end up solving one of the great interoperability problems for the industry and making Open Office even more popular.
