On December 26 2006, Ctrix Systems acquired virtualization technology company Ardence Inc.

Many of us who still see computers as science and not marketing and on ZDnet's erging tried out VMware to make copies of desktops and store these on servers. You are then able to run the desktop from the server. This means the user computer need not be of latest generation. Any old clunker will do because the actual processing is done on the server, the virtualized desktop becoming a killer web service.

I understand that 78 percent of the corporations in the US already use some flavor of virtualization. None of those will be budgeting for new PCs. It bodes poorly for Microsoft because with virtualization solving much of the security problems with Microsoft products there is no security reason for Vista and because no new PCs are being purchased, there is no preloaded Vista either.

In the mean time Bill Gates has actually been required to testify in front of a court of law seeking to recover from Microsoft the value of the poor security his company provided in prior Microsoft products. Its going to be hard to defend this one. I mean Microsoft product vs anything on security; the contrast is striking. Linux did that.
