A resignation is like the person leaving, not the company getting rid of.
If you resign from a company (at any stage of your career), this si you making a decision to leave (for whatever reason). If you are fired, one of a RIF, or laid off or similar, that is the company doing the seperation and not the employee. Jeremy Allison resigned, meaning he chose to leave.

If you do not agree with something that your employer does, you are not required (by any law, rule, etc.) to stay. You have the option to leave, resign or quit. The company has no say in this beyond possibly requiring some period of notice (allowing them to find a suitable replacement).

Your beliefs on the matter are of no importance, as you have no legacy or reputation (sans what is in your own mind) beyond possible your copious posts here (and possibly in other forums). This condition is largely what all the posters in these forum appear to get confused about (unless they are the ones being reported about). Neither Jeremy Allison, Novell or Microsoft agree with or support your beliefs!
