Emplyment is at will.
This means that neither the company nor the employee are required to maintain a relationship for any extended amount of time (people can be hired, fired, resin, leave, companies can hire, sever relationships, downsize, etc.). If for any reason one party of the other decides that the relationship should end (political disagreement, performance, etc.), the relationship may be severed (initiated by either party).

Some people actually do have impressive enough resumes that they can leave a company and quickly pick up another job (or start their own companies/operations, depending). Other people are (if the posts her are any indication) are employed completely at the digression of their employers and have limited options, thus are very bothered when someone who had made a name for themselves (in a given community or circle) leaves for what may (or may not) be a more politically satisfying environment.

Not sure why you are having such a problem with the actions of an individual (unless you are a slave to your employer or perhaps just waiting to be laid off).
