John, I shared that impression
I can tell you know a lot more about Linux than I, as I only began to follow it in the last year or so. I recall reading about a major Linux conference that Lindows was participating in (or maybe hosting), and the rest of the participants walked. Obviously, the company was held in low esteem.

This is why I was so surprised around the first of the year to see Lindows on some of the OEMs. About the same time, colleagues pointed me to some government inroads the company is making; I checked with their references, and sure enough they're well thought of. Then most recently, they seem to be hosting another Linux conference where they are well accepted. One more thing; from postings here, they seem to have dropped the default boot access.

What a difference a year makes. Lindows seems to have made the transition from a studied flake to a respected company. Either that or the PR department got its act together.
