US accredited Liberal Arts degree more valuable
Lets ponder Andy Grove's memos, which are in a new book on his life by Tedlow.

"Last weekend, one phone call with Gates... Exchange of pleasantries, threats... he threatened me a bunch of times with everything from disembowelment upward. We are now pissing at each other's pant legs in all kinds of different areas."

Interestingly, the above is not so uncommon amoung scientists.

Let me argue as an executive and point out that a liberal arts degree is likely more of a ticket to a high paying job in technology than a computer science degree. This is owing to the notion that the techology actually used in business and government is far advanced to the technology available to students.

The reason for this is simple. When a technology doesn't prove itself in business, it gets dumped into the school systems. Microsoft expects to salvage that technology by creating a ground swell of support amoung young entry level new hires. When these new hires go to work they stumble, suggest that they might do better if they could use .Net and if the manager isn't good .Net gets implemented.

Compare and contrast with the self motovated liberal arts degree potential new hire. This fellow likely has colaborated using document management systems developed for that purpose like Wiki. To get the liberal arts degree they know a lot about Google and internet searching and because they are interested they likely have created web sites, are you tubing, I poding etc. In other words to get their liberal arts degree they have learned to be efficient and effective.
