I have to agree with Laff
I tried a distro of Linux, and went back to Fedora. No muss, no fuss, all free. It even sets up my networking perfectly.
That's the whole point of OSS. While there is some OSS software out there that is not up to snuff. Plenty of it works fine, and for the time you would put in researching and finding a proprietary choice, you can also research and hopefully find a OSS choice, with the same features. If you do find one, it's a huge savings, if not you invested time wisely and then buy something that fits the needs.

Proprietary has it's uses, and OSS has it's uses. Which you use is up to you
