But how would they sour OSS...
...besides spreading doubtful paid for research studies, such as sayyy.. MS (kind of like writing my own SAT test). Would they lower their price to beat OSS? maybe, even pay the user to use the software. I don't think so.

The only way for proprietary software to continue properly is to make a better product than OSS. OSS is here to say. No sense in me buy something when I can get the same basic thing for free. I might pay for a better product, but it better be good, with proper support (a feature I find is lacking in paid software today, id is growing in the OSS community)
