Your Bloat is someones Feature
OK, I get your point, but in trying to be everything for everyone, MS has to deal with "bloat". I was on that "really tight" band-wagon at one time. Cheap memory and fast processor speeds made it almost indistingishable. It has been my experiance, people would prefer features to the computer scientist's ideal. It is a business decision.

Now about the article's focus; jobs. It will create jobs as people transition, but are they sustainable? doubtful, a better OS should require less maintenance and human intervention. On this basis, the study is negative opinion of Vista in my opinion. Are the same jobs lost elsewhere? I am sure the studies authors included this factor.

If in fact the new OS generates $18 in IT for every dollar MS receives, we should all be happy. It could be that we all need to spend $18/$ for training from MS. Ahh MS wins again.
