OpenVZ is like glorified chroot()
If you are willing to use chroot(), I'd suggest trying out OpenVZ or Virtuozzo as they are pretty much just a fancy chroot(). We use it on every server we have and it has paid off in spades. If you ever want or need to migrate a client or an application from one physical server to another, in the same office or even across the country or around the world, you just need to shut off that specific virtual server (not the whole box, of course) move it to the new place (scp, ftp (yuck), or some other way) and start it up on the other end. You don't need to reinstall anything or make sure you brought over all of your libraries or dependencies. All of the virtual servers use the same core kernel, so the overhead of multiple virtual server instances is greatly reduced. It wasn't mentioned in this article, which was a little disappointing. You don't need the overhead of a big VMWare system to do this kind of stuff.
